YORKTOWN NAVAL WEAPONS STATION YOUTH CENTER

PMA Architecture worked with the Navy’s Morale, Welfare, and Recreation Department and facilities managers to craft this new, state-of-the-art Youth Center - designed to be an engaging site for children ages 5-12 to participate in before and after school programs as well as summer programs. The cheerful interior features bright colors, dramatic ceiling shapes, and extensive natural daylighting. The 11,000 square foot, approximately $4.3 million center houses classrooms, a kitchen, a computer laboratory, and a commons area with games and a lounging area.

The building, designed in accordance with LEED criteria, uses 40% less water and 30% less energy than a typical building of its type. The building is designed to maximize energy savings through the use of motion-sensing lights, an energy efficient HVAC system, and low-flow fixtures.
