    HISTORIC COURT SQUARE

On this site where the original Town of Charlottesville was founded, Jefferson, Madison, and Monroe practiced law in their early careers. This project has transformed the pedestrian environment of Historic Court Square in order to compliment and distinguish this as the most historic part of the City. While the project was extensive in its scope of enhancements, the care exercised in design resulted in a quietly compatible effect which reveals the historic character of this significant place.

This urban revitalization project involved enhancing the pedestrian environment and the parking and roadways around Historic Court Square in the City of Charlottesville. Brick paving, granite curbing, and appropriate lighting and signage were designed to appropriately distinguish the historic character of Court Square and strengthen the historical coherence of this special place.
