YORKTOWN NAVAL WEAPONS STATION YOUTH CENTER

PMA Architecture worked with the Navy’s Morale, Welfare, and Recreation Department and facilities managers to craft this new, state-of-the-art Youth Center - designed to be an engaging site for children ages 5-12 to participate in before and after school programs as well as summer programs. The cheerful interior features bright colors, dramatic ceiling shapes, and extensive natural daylighting. The 11,000 square foot facility contains classrooms, a kitchen, a computer laboratory, and a commons area with games and a lounging area.

The building, designed in accordance with LEED criteria, uses 40% less water and 30% less energy than a typical building of its type. The building is designed to maximize energy savings through the use of motion-sensing lights, an energy efficient HVAC system, and low-flow fixtures.
